Cruise Ship Departure Delayed Following Illness Onboard
mv Discovery (11:20 a.m. EDT) -- Cruise & Maritime Voyages' mv Discovery is delaying its scheduled departure from Liverpool today following of an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness on the ship's previous cruise.

Embarkation will be delayed while Discovery undergoes a deep clean, and the ship is expected to depart four hours late -- at 10:30 p.m. -- for a 9-night cruise to the Norwegian fjords.

According to a spokesperson for the line, four passengers were quarantined and others presented symptoms in the first outbreak of gastrointestinal illness on the 700-passenger Discovery since CMV took over operation of the ship in early 2013.

In addition to being cleaned, Discovery's sauna facilities will remain closed at the outset of the cruise as will the self-service line at the Lido buffet.
